Maybe slightly rushed, but otherwise a satisfying ending to a wonderful series。 I'm going to miss these characters, but I loved the way they were sent off。 Maybe slightly rushed, but otherwise a satisfying ending to a wonderful series。 I'm going to miss these characters, but I loved the way they were sent off。 。。。more

This felt abrupt。 It was good tho, I liked it quite a bit。 The art is pretty good too。

This review is for the entire Ascender Series。The 18 issue run felt rather rushed and didn't feel like a sequel in any way (assuming Lemire planned this as a sequel)。Yes, there was a need for a sequel but Ascender didn't qualify for it。 It rather felt like the inevitable end just waiting to happen, with these 18 issues as gap fillers to just carry you to the destination。Any further review will not only suffer in comparison with Descender, but even as a standalone, there isn't much to takeaway fr This review is for the entire Ascender Series。The 18 issue run felt rather rushed and didn't feel like a sequel in any way (assuming Lemire planned this as a sequel)。Yes, there was a need for a sequel but Ascender didn't qualify for it。 It rather felt like the inevitable end just waiting to happen, with these 18 issues as gap fillers to just carry you to the destination。Any further review will not only suffer in comparison with Descender, but even as a standalone, there isn't much to takeaway from the series。 Be it backstory, character development or establishing a connect with the reader。 。。。more

Powerful! That's really the best that can be said of the conclusion to this dual-series of graphic novels。 The characterization was great and the action was heart-pounding from beginning to end。 Without giving anything away, the end was。。。 perfect。 I highly, highly recommend this graphic novel series and anything by Jeff Lemire。 I'm so glad I was able to read this and therefore share a small part of this amazing world Lemire and Nguyen created。 I only wish there were more。。。 Powerful! A bit of a rushed ending to be honest。 While the ending was good, it was so rushed it felt very underwhelming, could easily have been fleshed out into another volume。

What an epic beautiful saga in every way。

Shame it had to end but all things must。 Felt a little rushed but was a good ending nonetheless

Lemire is one of my favorites, but this ending felt rushed and with a sort of a Deus Ex Machina ending。I love the writing, but this felt like "I am tired of this story and I want it to end" kind of thing。The art was still top notch, but it fell flat somehow。Disappointing。 Lemire is one of my favorites, but this ending felt rushed and with a sort of a Deus Ex Machina ending。I love the writing, but this felt like "I am tired of this story and I want it to end" kind of thing。The art was still top notch, but it fell flat somehow。Disappointing。 。。。more

Wow。 What a ride this has been。 I’m so sad to see this series come to an end, but I’m happy to have known these characters。 I found Descender #1 in 2015 by chance as I ran into the nearest shop to escape a random rain storm。 I had no idea what that issue would inspire in me。 I dove deep into comics because of it。 It made me want to pursue a career in the comic world and now I have one。 I don’t think I could speak highly enough about the way this story as a whole makes me feel。 Don’t sleep on thi Wow。 What a ride this has been。 I’m so sad to see this series come to an end, but I’m happy to have known these characters。 I found Descender #1 in 2015 by chance as I ran into the nearest shop to escape a random rain storm。 I had no idea what that issue would inspire in me。 I dove deep into comics because of it。 It made me want to pursue a career in the comic world and now I have one。 I don’t think I could speak highly enough about the way this story as a whole makes me feel。 Don’t sleep on this amazing watercolor space opera that starts with a little boy android named Tim-21 trying to find his child companion after a cataclysmic event, and ends somewhere I never even fathomed。 I hope you find many friends to root for in Tim-21, Bandit, Telsa, Driller, Andy, and Effie, just as I did。 。。。more

The return of Tim-21 spells doom for the universe as Mother rushes to destroy him and claim all of magic for herself once and for all。 But Tim's family are all on their way as well, spread across myriad planets though they are, and they're not about to go down without a fight。For a conclusion, this wasn't bad at all。 We get all the plot points tied up, we get to see all our favourite characters again, and there's a fairly happy ending for everyone involved。 But it felt like there was so much mor The return of Tim-21 spells doom for the universe as Mother rushes to destroy him and claim all of magic for herself once and for all。 But Tim's family are all on their way as well, spread across myriad planets though they are, and they're not about to go down without a fight。For a conclusion, this wasn't bad at all。 We get all the plot points tied up, we get to see all our favourite characters again, and there's a fairly happy ending for everyone involved。 But it felt like there was so much more to this story to tell, and I'm not sure why it came to an end so quickly。 Then again, if this was always going to be the conclusion, meandering around it for longer only to arrive at the same place would have been pointless as well, so I'm kind of torn。The art's still fabulous, because Dustin Nguyen uses white space like no other artist in comics, and even when things get big and bombastic and a little abstract, it's still easy to tell who's who and what's going on。Ascender didn't always reach the heights that Descender did (now that's a confusing sentence to write), but this final collection brings it all to a satisfying close, even if it doesn't feel like it needed to do so just yet。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A complete, satisfying, moving conclusion to the Descender/Ascender saga。 This was delayed and feels rushed (the last two issues could have been their own arc), but the story is strong, the emotional payoffs are immense (“Driller Drilling。” Good Lord。), and Nguyen’s art is expressive enough that he and Lemire find new life in their dense pacing。 This is Lemire’s strongest work since Age of Doom (if not Sweet Tooth) and one of the very best comics of 2021。

Ascender’s final volume is also the end cap to everything built up from Descender。 A lot happens in a very short span of time, and even though this final volume was delayed it still felt rushed。 I’m pretty happy with it overall, but it did not leave the same large impact Descender had on me。
